# NEAR
> NEAR API is available on [Web3 API platform](https://crypto-chief.com/rpc/near/).
*NEAR Protocol* is a proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain with a sharded architecture called Nightshade. Each shard processes a subset of transactions in parallel, with state shared across shards through a validator set. NEAR uses human-readable account names (e.g., `alice.near`), has sub-cent transaction fees, and supports smart contracts written in Rust and AssemblyScript, compiled to WebAssembly.
Applications interact with NEAR through a REST-like RPC API. Requests are made over HTTP with JSON-encoded payloads, and all responses are returned in [JSON format](https://www.json.org/json-en.html).

The API enables you to retrieve information about an account's access keys.
#### View access key
> Retrieves information about a single access key for a given account.
If `permission` of the key is `FunctionCall`, it will return more details such as the `allowance`, `receiver_id`, and `method_names`.
